Authorities in Virginia say police are responding to a report of shots fired just before midnight on Friday in downtown Blacksburg.
Four people are hospitalized and one person has died after a shooting just before midnight Friday in downtown Blacksburg, Virginia, near Virginia Tech, according to the university.
The university said the severity of the injuries of those who were hospitalized isn’t known yet. One of the people injured was a student, the university confirmed in a statement.
Blacksburg Police responded to reports of shots fired at Melody Hookah Lounge on Main Street, according to a police statement.
Virginia Tech was placed on lockdown, the university tweeted warning students to stay indoors around midnight. The university lifted the lockdown around 3:15 a.m. but asked people to avoid going downtown as the investigation continues.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
