Video: John Lennon (official channel)
The preorder film for “Power to the People,” the newly announced four-disc deluxe Blu-ray built around John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s New York years, is doing double duty: it is an advertisement for a box set and a small piece of restoration theatre in its own right. Clips drawn from the 1972 One to One concerts — the only full-length shows Lennon ever played as a solo artist — have been surfacing in steadily cleaner form, and this video is the campaign’s calling card.
Sean Ono Lennon announced the set on October 9, the birthday he shares with his father, with the collection due April 9, 2027. Its centrepiece is “One to One: John & Yoko,” the documentary drawn from the Madison Square Garden benefit concerts, and the preorder film leans into what makes that footage singular: Lennon, two years out of the Beatles, playing a full rock show with the energy of a man testing whether the stage still belonged to him.
It did. That is the pleasure of the clip — not nostalgia, but evidence. Fifty years on, the estate’s remastering programme keeps making the same argument with better resolution: this catalogue is not finished being discovered.
